It’s Friday, it’s been a long week and so instead of pontificating I think I’m just going to throw a whole bunch of spaghetti on the wall and see what sticks.

In case you haven’t heard yet, Apple is trying to remake how we experience the world yet again. This time through their new iPad. It’s essentially a larger version of the iPod touch that’s currently being pushed as Apple’s version of an e-reader/netbook.
It also has, um, other uses…

This is what the United States would look like if, instead of the rather arbitrary way we have things now, jurisdictions were roughly equal in population size. This also takes care of the rather odd issue in the Senate. Where a Senator from North Dakota (population less than a million) has the same power as a Senator from California (population 50 million).

I like this post by Ezra Klein on the end of Year 1 of Obama’s presidency. He points out the rather obvious fact that Candidate Obama promised a lot that President Obama can’t live up to given the restraints of America’s political system. A President can say I want to establish program X, Y and Z but the nature of Congress means that a disgruntled Senator (from Connecticut say…) can take a pound of flesh and say he’ll only vote for the overall package if program Z is cut. When the opposition is doing all it can to sink your agenda and you need every vote you have to do what you want to do, things get (and have been) really ugly.
I also like his point that Candidate Obama’s main appeal was his communicative style and his ability to explain clearly and eloquently what he wanted to do, why he wanted to do it and that it was morally imperative to do so. Whereas President Obama has spoken rarely and usually only when his agenda was severely threatened. Instead of selling Americans on what he wants to do he’s been lecturing Congress when they get too close to mucking things up for him.
So while Obama’s first year has actually been rather productive… No one knows that, which is going to be a problem – especially if Congress can’t pull its act together and pass health care reform. Cause come November no one’s gonna care about the stimulus or Matthew Shepard or the repeal of the HIV travel ban or how much better the United State’s image is, if health care reform flops Democrats will have proven that they’re incapable of passing the single most important item of their agenda and -that- will not be pretty.
I’ve never really been on the YouTube bandwagon. I mean… do I really want to watch 50,000 videos of peoples pets doing stupid things or 100,000 anime clips mashed up with random songs? Let me answer that for you: no, no I don’t.
However, I’ve recently been coming around to the idea. At least when there are cute boys who are genuinely entertaining…

Alex Day is both funny and a good musician! However, I’m pretty sure I have an unnatural appreciation of British humor so perhaps I’m biased.
Given the amount of time gay men spend on online dating sites I found this report from OKcupid interesting.
Some of the things they found make sense (ripped guys who show off their muscles get more play than others) whereas others are somewhat counterintuitive (face pics don’t matter a whole lot). Go ahead and give it a read.

The company that operates Harmon Theater and Krave nightclub at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood on Monday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Attorney Robert Atkinson said his client intends to continue operations at the theater and gay nightclub, as allowed under Chapter 11. The operations were affected by the temporary closing of Harmon Avenue during CityCenter construction.
Owner Sia Amiri signed the bankruptcy filing for Krave Entertainment, which does business as Harmon Theater. The theater Web site offers tickets for the Amazing Jonathan and the Naughty Boys Hypnosis Show.
The filing shows that Krave has $153,000 in assets and $3.5 million in liabilities, including $602,000 owed to the Internal Revenue Service for payroll taxes. The Nevada Department of Taxation is owed $299,000 for sales taxes and $174,000 for entertainment taxes.
I tried going to Krave once… after watching several rather unattractive people go in, pay the outrageous cover and then walk right back out we decided it’d be cheaper and more fun to just drink in our hotel. Seems we weren’t the only ones.
